Ground Plan of a Tipi

Tipi - Ground Plan of a Tipi

Ground Plan of a Tipi, drawn by Paul Goble

"The tipi’s shape is not a true cone, being steeper at the back, the west, (remembering that the tipi faces east). Most of the poles are at the east, bracing against the pressure of the prevailing winds from the west and northwest, blowing against the steep west side. Without any corners, a cone easily sheds wind and rain.
Since the tipi is not a true cone, the floor plan is not round but shaped a little like an egg, longer from the door to the back, east
to west."
